Tulipa Pendant

Spring 2023 Release

The Tulipa pendant is inspired by the sculptural and layering of colors in tulip petals. Organic, curved glass in soft reds and greens glows as the LED downlight shines through slots on the center column and onto the surface below.

I decided to change a few parts to improve this design:

  1. I made the pendant slightly larger because it seemed too small for a large kitchen setting.

  2. I chose to move the light leak slots in between the glass pieces to make the light less blinding to a person’s eyes.

As the main element of this design, the glass color and shape had to be perfect. I went back and forth with the factory to get the right colors, shape, and specified the polished edges.

The frame, while simple, had it’s own details I wanted to include:

  1. The thumb screws - a mechanical and necessary element, but still visually beautiful.

  2. The steps in the metal column at the top - the extra detail adds extra refinement to the overall quality, and gives more room for the heat sink.

  3. The frosted diffuser and downlight - the light has to be useful and function as a light source, no matter what it looks like. The frosted glass softens the AC LED, and the downlight is perfect for a kitchen island or a bedroom.

  4. The racetrack shaped slots/cutouts in the column - the rounded ends were specifically chosen because of the softer look.

  5. Curved canopy - it repeats the soft curves throughout this entire fixture.
